You Can Always Take the Next Step
A counter to my own contribution to the negativity
Earlier today I wrote a piece titled An Unrelenting Onslaught of Negativity, and it pretty much was exactly what that title promises, a litany of darkness. It’s been a rough week on this planet, in this country, the US. I wanted to capture some of the frustration and anger I feel and that I know others feel at the terrible events we seem to hear about daily.
But my goal, as a writer and an observer, is to find balance. In this case balance between the negative and the positive. But I could not find that balance in this piece, no matter how much I looked for it. The specter of nineteen dead children, two teachers, and an undeserving grandmother* blown to pieces by an angry child was too much.
*The facts around this shooting keep changing. The most recent thing I’ve heard is that the grandmother may have survived. But it also appears that the local cops screwed up the response which may have led to more deaths.
Especially because 10 people had been killed earlier in the week near my home, most of them black, by another young man brainwashed by extremists to become racist. He had guns too.
Hard not to be negative.
