Where Are the Democrat Attack Dogs?

I am increasingly disgusted with the Democratic Party. No powerful leadership, kowtowing to Trump decisions, normalizing acceptance of outright lying and bigotry, letting unelected rich guys talk to congress as though they have a say in anything- the list goes on and on.

Democrats have power, a lot of power. Trump’s majorities in Congress are razor thin and his party is bitterly divided behind the scenes. But they are pretty good at acting as though they have a major mandate. In the face of the lying and those thin margins, a unified Democratic Party, behind a strong leader, could upset the apple cart every time the Republicans try to implement Trump’s self-serving policies.

The upcoming confirmation hearings are the perfect opportunity to tell the country about the reality of these extremist buffoons Trump wants to lead the country. Unfortunately I question who will lead a campaign like that. Chuck Schumer? He is one of my Senators and a great leader in normal times but these are not normal times. He and his colleagues are schooled in compromise, which works in something like a normal time when bipartisan negotiating was how things got done.

But that normal is the distant past. The last time we saw anything like it was when Joe Biden somehow passed important legislation early in his term. But Biden had major congressional connections on both sides and was coming off a period when the country was emerging dazed from a devastating pandemic.

Today Trump’s lawyers are trying to get Attorney General Garland to bury Jack Smith’s evidence in the now canceled January Sixth insurrection case against Trump, evidence that could prove damning to Trump’s plans to pardon those who commited violent treason in 2021.

So far Garland has shown no backbone in vigorously enforcing the rule of law and this will be a test. He should immediately release the documents and let the American public see the reality once again.

That investigation is the last remaining evidence of Trump’s involvement in that tragic day, as he has methodically crushed those who led the public investigation and plans more vengeance against those who led it. Where is the outrage in Congress?
