What Does It Take To Get Republican Politicians To Talk About Guns?

I am heartsick and angry like a lot of us

I am holding every single Republican voter responsible for this carnage. MAGA, RINO, moderate, wing nut, male, female, young, old. You need to demand that your elected officials put the lives of children ahead of gun laws. It’s that black and white.

You are all complicit. This country is going to hell and you are contributing every time you vote for one of these monsters.

Two eighteen year olds with guns, 18 19 young children, 2 teachers, 11 African American people getting groceries at their neighborhood store.

The numbers got worse while I wrote this.

Those are the bad ones, but there were at least three more in the last week. There have been 222 mass shootings in the US this year alone and it is only May.

And not one Republican politician will mention the glaringly obvious. The guns. One of those eighteen year olds lived in my state, NY, where we have some of the strictest gun laws in the country, yet even having previously threatened violence and suicide at his school, he was still able to buy high powered weapons.

Apparently guns are far more important than children.

After President Reagan was shot at by a crazy young man and his Press Secretary James Brady seriously wounded, a law was passed with teeth in it that required real background checks. Years later the Republicans, backed by the corrupt NRA, killed it, even though it was about the near assasination of their own revered President.

It all defies logic. It all defies compassion. This has nothing to do with the second amendment, nothing.

It is entirely about money. And political power.

Does anyone ever ask about the volume of handguns manufactured here compared with legal demand? Those other guns, including huge numbers of ghost guns; millions of them are going somewhere and money is changing hands.

The Republicans killed a bill attempting to deal with domestic terrorism this week, after one of those eighteen year olds published a 180 page racist diatribe and then drove 200 miles to a black neighborhood and killed eleven people. Three more were wounded.

The Republicans do not like the term ‘domestic terrorism’ because a lot of people doing it look a lot like many of their own.

I really honestly do not know how they can look at themselves in the mirror each morning after nineteen children in Texas are dead.

Nineteen elementary school children and two teachers. And the shooter’s grandmother.

Little kids.

But whatever you do, don’t talk about guns. It’s bad politics.

But, obviously guns are more important than the lives of children. We already knew the lives of black people didn’t count.

Shame.
