The Second January Six Hearing: A Portrait of Delusion

Desperation, lies, myths, and crazy lawyers

So far, as these hearings go on, it is quite apparent that Trump did not want to hear anything, no matter how compelling or based on facts, that implied in any way that he lost.

I’m not a psychiatrist, but it seems quite obvious that a person who totally defies reality is mentally ill. Only a seriously mentally ill person would make up fake facts on a daily basis, none of which could be verified, even after endless investigations.

The stated goal of this second hearing was to definitively prove that Trump was shown over and over again that there was no election fraud and that he had lost the election. But the former president defaulted to one of the oldest tricks of scam artists to make his case.

In public, and on friendly media, he repeated a series of lies over and over again. A large portion of the American public chose to believe Trump despite the overwhelming evidence that he was constantly lying.

Scam artists know that if you continually lie, over and over again, those lies start to sound like reality to those who want to believe them. Trump has been a professional grifter for his entire career, ripping off his believing fans by selling them crappy merchandise, bogus Trump University courses, lies about his net worth, and on and on.

Even after the election he used his big lie to raise $250 million from small donors to fight the election results. None of that money was used for that purpose. It was quite clear that no one actually knows where that money is being used.

Prior to his political career, Trump and his representatives had filed over 2000 lawsuits designed to obscure these scams. Virtually every one was dismissed or outright lost.

Yet his fans continued to persist in their belief in his mythology. The only reasonable explanation for this is the inability to admit that a person’s core belief system might be wrong. Trump is extremely aware of this human flaw and takes advantage of it by constantly reinforcing his lies through sheer repetition.

The January Six committee has laid out overwhelming evidence of this obsession by bringing Trump’s closest and most senior advisors to tell how he constantly circled back to self-serving lies rather than listen to even his own supporters.

The Committee set out its goal for this hearing and presented an irrefutable case supporting that goal.

Trump lost, he knew it, and he knows it now, but he will never admit to losing or being wrong.

He simply cannot deal with the truth.

It is critical to note that every live witness testimony and video testimony shown in this hearing came from Republicans.
