The Bottom Falls Out of Trump’s Economy
Plummeting jobs numbers
Yesterday, August 1, marked a big change in the big beautiful Trump economy. Not only is he TACOing again about his hard and fast deadline for global tariffs (it was today), new job creation numbers came out for June and numbers from April and May were revised drastically downward.
The June number came in at 73,000, far below the projected number of around 110,000. That’s a very bad sign but the revised numbers for the two prior months were down by 258,000, meaning half of Trump’s term so far has been sharply downward, giving lie to his claims that the threatened tariffs would result in a booming economy. Instead we are getting a disaster.
Trump’s reaction to these new numbers? He shot the messenger. Which in his world meant firing the head of the Bureau of Labor Statistics which collects the numbers. He claims, with no evidence, that she cooked the books both before the election in Harris’s favor and now against his, showing just how petty the man is. The constant victim; nothing is ever his fault.
Just one problem with that act: we will soon see the economic results of these numbers and they will be hard to ignore. Or deny. Actually two problems. The BLS is considered the reliable gold standard for government data but now Trump has politicized it and we can…
