I’m in your Medium generation, started writing more consistently last March. I make my living as a writer and have for nearly thirty years so the money was not the goal (but I’ll happily take it!).

It is true that once you’re in with Better Marketing and the Startup (my sweet spots) that they take most of your stuff and it seems like curation does follow.

I did have a dead period in January but this month has seen a lot of curation.

Remember this quote from Gene Roddenbury, creator of Star Trek:

“People tell me 95% of television is crap. I tell them 95% of everything is crap.”

If he was right, and I think he was, then about 1500 of the writers here are decent, the rest need work. I do take issue with someone with a very minor success appointing themselves an expert, which is a big problem around here. If people want to do well here, don’t write about doing well here. Write about something you are passionate about and polish the hell out of it before hitting publish. It should be blindingly bright.
