Apparently there are a lot of new Medium members trying to build a following by following lots of people. They think it should be reciprocal or something.

Part of this is Medium’s hundred follower requirement for entering the payment program. But mostly it is a symptom of the ‘build a personal brand’ mythology.

Personal brands, also known as personality, are not based on random following. They are not ‘you like me, I’ll like you’.
