I hate this idea of creating a ‘personal brand’. You build your identity and audience, as a writer, by writing good stuff. Useful or entertaining stuff. I signed up for one of these newsletters and it consists of a lot of whiny, self-indulgent ‘information’ or random thoughts. Writers writing about writing! When I write about writing I’m talking about experiences I’ve had as a professional writer and well paid content marketer. If someone finds my stuff and likes it, great. But I’m not sending them my weekly thoughts- they’re not that interesting or insightful!

Former software marketer. Former musician. Writer, nine non-fiction books, two novels, Buddhist, train lover. Amateur cook, lover of life most of the time!

The Personal Newsletter Fad Needs to End
