Dear Senate Republicans, Is There Any Number That Scares You? I Know One.
2020 is full of scary numbers. But you don’t seem fazed by them. Not the 260,000 Americans dead and thousands more dying every day. Not the ten twelve million total Covid cases nationwide, growing by hundreds of thousands every day. Or the 12 million unemployed whose benefits run out in a few weeks, leaving them with no resources?
How about the thousands facing eviction and homelessness? The hundreds of cars lined up for food? The same long lines of scared people waiting for Coronavirus tests? The number of hospital beds left in your red states as cases flood hospitals?
We think all of these numbers are scary, really scary. Yet you don’t seem rattled at all. Instead you obsess about political power. I have news for you. This is happening on your watch. And we won’t forget. History will not forget.
There are few more scary numbers. The number of meaningful laws you’ve passed in the past four years. Not many. None in fact. Oh, wait, except for tax ‘reform’ that changed us into an economic two class society, most of us and a handful of billionaires.
This is not political. Death could care less what party you vote for. But I can think of two numbers that you do nothing Senators might be afraid of: 50–50 and one Democratic Vice President.
We can always hope because we need something to hope for. We’re not getting it from you.
