As a lifelong writer, I definitely clap for this. When you say to study what you read, you're right. And the best way to do this is to reread the things that intrigue you. The ones where you go 'how did they do that? Make me feel that? Create that character or scene?, Etc.' Finish it, think about it, then look at it again from a structural perspective. There are books, mostly novels, that I've read five or six times and still they are fresh and I learn: Gatsby, Anil's Ghost, War and Peace (only two times but it is 1200 pages!).

I can tell the wannabe writers who don't read- they write like children! Though that may not be fair to children- at least they have an excuse! Thanks again.
