A cautionary note for all writers reading this: I’m assuming you were not offered an advance? You don’t mention money at all. A legitimate publisher offers a non-recoupable advance against royalties and you retain copyright. You are essentially licensing the rights to the publisher. Please, if you’re reading this, don’t accept any other sketchy kinds of deals, including work for hire- they are scams. I understand being desperate to be published, but this is just inviting disaster, both financially and reputationally.
